1. What is the Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program?
The Veterans Upward Bound Program (VUB) is a federally funded Department of Education program that is designed to help eligible military veterans refresh their academic skills and prepare for success in postsecondary education.
2. Who is eligible for the Veterans Upward Bound Program?
Eligible participants for the Veterans Upward Bound Program include U.S. military veterans who have served at least 181 days of active duty service and have received a discharge other than dishonorable. Additionally, participants must be either low-income or first-generation college students, or be considered at-risk of academic failure. Further eligibility guidelines can be found here.

The Veterans Upward Bound Program provides a variety of services, including academic instruction, tutoring, counseling, mentoring, career exploration, assistance with college admissions and financial aid applications, and other support services to help veterans prepare for success in postsecondary education.
4. How much does it cost to participate in the Veterans Upward Bound Program?
There is no cost to participate in the Veterans Upward Bound Program. All services provided by the program are free to eligible participants.

The length of participation in the Veterans Upward Bound Program varies depending on the individual needs and goals of each participant. Some veterans may participate in the program for only a few weeks or months, while others may participate for a year or more. We tailor our services to each individual veterans specific needs, and work with the veteran on a timeline that fits them best.

7. Is the Veterans Upward Bound Program affiliated with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)?
No, the Veterans Upward Bound Program is not affiliated with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). However, many of our participants are eligible for VA education benefits, and we can provide assistance with the application process for those benefits. VUB also works closely with numerous VA departments, including VR&E, HUD-VASH, Transition Services, and much more.
8. Can I participate in the Veterans Upward Bound Program if I am already enrolled in college?
No, veterans who are already enrolled in college are unfortunately not eligible to participate in the Veterans Upward Bound Program, even if they meet the program's eligibility criteria. VUB is a pre-college program and it is the expectation of the Education Department that we do not duplicate services that Veteran Services at each institution should in theory provide.
With that said, we encourage Veterans who are already enrolled and in need of support to reach out. We do not believe in turning Veterans away and will do everything can to assist you in your pursuit of higher education!
