English Language Arts

​In this course, students will expand their understanding of writing and critical reading abilities that will help them succeed in higher education. Subject matter for the course will fit the overall theme of real life applicability. Through short written works and the practice of using appropriate writing structures, students will prepare for college enrollment.

History

​A survey of world history from the beginning of civilization and ancient cultures through the early modern and modern eras. Broader forces that affect civilizations such as trade patterns, migration, nomadism, syncretism, and disease patterns will be studied. From the early modern to modern era interconnections and exchange will be emphasized. Similarities and differences among cultures will be examined. Cultural, intellectual, and technological developments and exchange will be explored. Broader forces that affect civilizations such as borderlands, exploration and travel, gender and class will be studied.

Mathematics

​In this course students will learn and apply the concepts of a basic college level mathematics course, along with investigating the ideas behind budgeting time and money in college.  Students will be pushed to look at things like credit, loan repayment, etc.

Communications

​​​In this course, students will focus on verbal and nonverbal communication, conflict management and resolution, oral presentation (public speaking) skills, small group communication skills, listening skills and relationship-building skills.

Foreign Language

​In a partnership with Rosetta Stone we will be offering the full Rosetta Stone Language line up for any VUB participant interested in learning a second language during their studies. The package includes on lifetime license to the language of choice. Options include: Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Tagalog, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Irish, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.

This hands-on course uses the basic features of Microsoft Office to navigate, type, and use the basic functions of your computer.
Computer Literacy: Basic Computing Skills
The offering focuses on basic computing skills including internet, word processing, and spreadsheets. 
Computer Literacy: Intermediate/Advanced
Create business documents, analyze data, and present information. The in-depth coverage of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.t.
